About New Wave Gospel Productions

New Wave Gospel Productions History

On October 16, 1988 New Wave Gospel Productions officially entered the Gospel Music Industry by promoting one of the biggest Gospel concerts of all time. Gospel music lovers and supporters throughout Chicago, Illinois and many from across America and around the World shared in the very first New Wave Gospel Productions Concert on this blessed day at the famed UIC Pavillion in Chicago.

The historic occasion featured the King of Gospel Music, Rev. James Cleveland, The Mighty Clouds of Joy, The Clark Sisters, who all were featured in the movie “Gospel”, The Jackson Southernaires, and Chicago’s very own Angela Spivey & The Voices of Victory of First Corinthians Missionary Baptist Church Choir and The Universal Voices the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church. It also drew support from local, regional, and national media outlets as well as a great outpouring of support from the general public. Those who attended were blessed by a first class Gospel concert that featured some of the top Gospel Artists in the World performing together on the same stage on the same night.

Under the direction of Sister Kathy Lockett, Chief Executive Officer and her husband Deacon Donald Lockett, Chief Financial Officer – New Wave Gospel Productions continued to grow year after year. As God has continuously enlarged the New Wave Gospel events and entities, the Lockett’s enlisted the support of many Gospel enthusiasts and formed New Wave Gospel Ministries; a comprehensive board to include many who are very influential in the Gospel Music Industry. Some of these individuals who serve on the official New Wave Gospel Productions Board are: Rev., Dr. Isaac Lindsey – General Manager of WAGR FM 102.5 and WXTN AM 1000 Radio stations that are owned by Mr. & Mrs. Lockett, Sister Rosie Trenia Moore, Brother Tommy Patrick, Brother Major Rose, Evangelist Debrey Washington, Sister Mary Anna Acoff, Rev. David Anderson, Brother Charles Love, Sister Jameelah Hafeez, Brother Edwin “Max” Collins, Sister Margaret Chatman, Sister Margaret Bruce, Pastor Leon “Pete” Walker, and others. The late Pastor Harold Washington was a major part of New Wave's success and also served as the Co-Host of New Wave Gospel Radio and the official Master of Ceremonies for all New Wave Gospel Productions events from the very start of the organization until his untimely death. Other major contributors to New Wave's success who have passed on include the late Claude "Joe"Jefferson and Richard Paradise who were official street team members for many years.

The official New Wave Gospel staff also includes Sister Joyce Neal, Sister Pamela Collins, Sister Johnny Mae Dearden, Sister Cynthia Chatman, Sister Shirley Thompson, and others.

New Wave Gospel Productions & New Wave Gospel Ministries promotes and hosts at least three major events annually on the 2nd Sunday in November, the 3rd Sunday in March, and of course the ever-popular World’s Greatest Mother’s Day Gospel Bowl that has drawn nearly 10,000 people every 2nd Sunday in May.
